Tokyo November 16, 2006 - ANA today filed an application with Japan's Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure and Transport to lower its fuel surcharge on international
tickets issued on or after January 1 this year.
"In line with the recent fall in the price of aviation
fuel, we are pleased reduce the level of our fuel surcharge on
international flights, as we promised when it was introduced," said ANA
President and CEO, Mineo Yamamoto. "However, despite the fall, the price
of fuel remains at a very high level and it is with reluctance that we
must continue to pass on part of this burden to our customers, while doing
our best to curb costs from our side," he continued.
The international fuel surcharge was introduced in
February, 2005, along with provisions for its reduction or removal should
certain market conditions be met. The conditions for further reduction are
thus: the price of fuel is ascertained on the 10th day of every
month. If for the preceding 30 consecutive days it has remained below
US$75 per barrel, the surcharge will be lowered to the levels shown in
chart (2) below. Likewise, if the market price continues to fall, it will
be further reduced. The fuel surcharge will be discontinued completely if
the market price drops below US$40 per barrel for 30 consecutive days.
Changes come into effect from the first day of the following
month. |
