ANA Celebrates 20 Years of International Flights |
|
|
| |
|
| TOKYO January 4, 2006 - ANA will celebrate 20 years of linking Japan
to the rest of the world on March 3 this year with the anniversary of its historic
first scheduled international flight in 1986 from Tokyo to the Pacific resort
island of Guam. Until that point ANA was a solely domestic player, excluding occasional
charter flights. It now operates approximately 450 weekly international flights
on 35 routes to 10 countries throughout the world. |
| |
| Japanese citizens come of age at twenty, so to mark the occasion and as a
token of thanks to its customers, ANA will introduce several new menus incorporating
symbolic foods which reflect a rich heritage related to Japanese celebrations,
amongst other special offers. |
| |
 |
Special Food and Drink |
|
| For the month of March only, First Class passengers on flights originating
in Japan will be able to enjoy whole grilled sea bream and lobster sashimi, as
part of an ‘Iwai Zen’ menu of dishes typically eaten at celebrations.
Sea bream in Japanese is called ‘Tai’, similar in sound to ‘medetai,’
the Japanese word for congratulations. Eating of Tai is traditionally associated
with good luck. Those First Class passengers preferring a western choice will
be offered ‘Wagyu’ steak from Yamagata in northern Japan, a premium
brand of Japanese beef held in the same regard as the world famous Kobe beef. |
| |
| For dessert, peach mousse with rose champagne sorbet will complete the meal.
In Japan, peach blossoms are at the height of their season at the beginning of
March. Adding to the sense of the occasion is Girl’s Day, which falls on
March 3 in Japan. |
| |
| Similarly, passengers traveling in Club ANA (business class) from Japan will
have a choice of two types of sea bream (or ‘Tai’), – ‘Kinmedai’
with red skin, or ‘Madai’ with white skin – both auspicious
colors at Japanese celebratory meals. The western option is a succulent Wagyu
beef tenderloin. |
| |
| Passengers traveling between Tokyo and Los Angeles will also be able to enjoy
a peach and rose champagne flavored anniversary ANA Parfait for their dessert. |
| |
To accompany the food for the month of March, all First Class and Club ANA
customers will be offered rose champagne as part of their drinks selection. Club
ANA passengers will also have the choice of an anniversary cocktail among the
ANA original cocktail menu.
Customers in Economy Class will be able to join in the celebrations with a strawberry
birthday cake as dessert, created especially for the occasion. |
| |
 |
