Specific fluorocarbon and trichloroethane used for aircraft maintenance
In 1994, use of the above materials was phased out according to the reduction
plan adopted in 1990 (see figure). |

Halon Discharged by Extinguisher Training
In Feb. 1993, the training of crew and cabin attendants that had previously used
actual fire extinguishers was changed to a new training method using a mock fire
extinguisher and water fire extinguisher instead of the halon fire extinguisher,
in addition to the use of videos. |
|
Maintenance of Fire Extinguisher
Collection equipment for halon was introduced at the companies that maintains
the fire extinguishers, and a system to reuse the halon was established. |

Restricted materials such as fluorocarbons used for aircraft equipment
Removal of water coolers (standard equipment) in aircraft is underway as they
are not used. Also, the air cooling refrigerant was changed to HFC134 from the
restricted material CFC-12 until 1999. CFC-113, which was used as the injection
material for cockpit rain repellent systems, was phased out in fiscal 1998 when
ANA deactivated all cockpit rain repellent systems to minimize the use of ozone-depleting
materials. |
